£20,000 Raised for the First Five Charities Taking Part in 'Charity Bruce' Initiative

During the first five nights of Monty Python Live (mostly) at London's O2, the Pythons have helped to raise over £20,000 for their chosen charities: The Mercury Phoenix Trust, NSPCC, Shelter, Maggie’s Centres and The Roundhouse.

The charities were given the opportunity to auction the part of 'Bruce' to their supporters. Each night one of the winners then took to the stage to take part in the infamous 'Bruce' sketch alongside the Pythons at the O2, answering questions about their charity and singing along to the 'Philosopher's Song' - in front of thousands of people! Well done to the 'Bruces' who took part!

The Pythons hope to raise more during next week's shows when a further five 'Charity Bruces' will participate in the sketch.

The Pythons Perform their Upcoming O2 Show to Friends and Family

The Pythons performed their ‘Monty Python Live (mostly) – One Down Five to Go’ show in front of an audience of 300 friends and family last night. Here’s what some of them had to say about it:

“Thank you so much. What a wonderful event. What a wonderful spectacle. I cannot remember enjoying myself so much and laughing so much that it hurt. We were overwhelmed by the whole joyful production. I also found the show to be so emotional. At the end I had tears in my eyes. A Python experience I'll never forget. I could see it again and again.”

“We much enjoyed the show last night and were hugely impressed by the production values and how smoothly it seemed to run.”

“I loved the slick interplay of animation, dance and performance!”

'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' – The Unofficial England Football Anthem

Monty Python have announced the re-release of their classic and much adored single 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' with a brand new verse fitting for this year’s World Cup, should England fail to triumph. The single is out now and available for download on iTunes.

Written by Eric Idle for the final sequence of Monty Python’s second feature film 'The Life of Brian' (1979), 'Always Look On The Bright Side Of Life' is probably the best-known and most popular Python song and has become established as a favourite sing-along at both funerals and sporting events.

Its cheerfully stoic message found particular resonance with football fans and was initially adopted as a chant by fans of Sheffield Wednesday at the dawn of the 1990s, before becoming part of the repertoire of England fans experiencing deflating failures at major international tournaments.

Download on iTunes.

‘The Pythons’ Autobiography by the Pythons’ is a unique insight into arguably the most important comic team of the modern age, lavishly illustrated throughout, with photographs culled from the team's own personal collections.
