Celebrating 1 Year Since “Monty Python – The Meaning of Live” Premiered on UKTV Gold
"Monty Python - The Meaning of Live", the uniquely intimate documentary, which follows the Pythons as they reunite for a final time to stage a marathon ten reunion shows at The O2 in July 2014, was commissioned by UKTV in September 2014.
Directed by Roger Graef OBE and James Rogan, produced by Jim Beach and Holly Gilliam, featuring new interviews with the remaining Pythons and including some never-before-seen archival footage from the group’s early live shows, the film premiered on UKTV Gold on 13 November 2014.
Since it’s first television broadcast, the film has been broadcast on television channels around the world; screened in over 14 film festivals including Tribeca Film Festival, HotDocs Toronto, Sheffield Documentary Film Festival, Vancouver International Film Festival, Sao Paulo International Film Festival and, most recently, Copenhagen International Documentary Film Festival; and is also available on iTunes.
The Pythons described the film as “moving, and also sad” (Eric Idle) and “a very good, new documentary” (John Cleese).
The film has been described by U.K. reviewers as “A comic treasure of a film. Five stars” (Mail on Sunday); and “Both bracingly frank and surprisingly touching” (The Metro, London)
And it received some great reviews in the US and Canada following it's international and Canadian premieres in NYC and Toronto.
Paul Shamassian, the film’s key cameraman, has written a piece about his experience shooting the film.
And this week it was announced that the film has been nominated for a Rose D’Or Award.
It’s been a great year.
Happy Birthday “Monty Python - Meaning of Live”!
